SUER EAGLES; Brazil here we come

Continental champions Nigeria became the first African side to qualify for the 2014 World Cup after beating Ethiopia 2-0 in Calabar on Saturday.
Goals from Victor Moses and Victor Obinna sealed a comfortable victory and a 4-1 aggregate win.
Moses converted from the penalty spot after Aynalem Hailu was harshly adjudged to have handled in the area.
Substitute Obinna cemented a place in Brazil when his free-kick deceived Sisay Bancha in the Ethiopia goal.
Nigeria are through to their fifth finals, having previously qualified in 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2010, and they will travel to Brazil with their eye on reaching the knock-out stages for the first time since France 1998.

Fifa Nigerians make CAF shortlist for player of the year

Caf have shortlisted five Nigerian stars for this year's African Footballer of the Year award which includes the trio of John Obi Mikel, Sunday Mba and Emmanuel Emenike.
CSKA Moscow attacking winger, Ahmed Musa and Lille goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, complete the list of Nigerians on the shortlist.
However, Mba has also been nominated in the African Footballer of the Year award for players based in Africa.
An elated Mba told supersport.com on Friday that the nominations are surprising to him.
"I am hearing this for the first time. I am really, really surprised and at the same time I'm happy. This goes to show that hard work and brilliance do not go unnoticed," said Mba to supersport.com.
It would be recalled that Mba scored the winner for Nigeria against Burkina Faso in the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa in February.continue reading

Inter milan's Icardi decleares love for Maxi lopez's ex wife

An Italian-based love triangle has come to light on Thursday involving Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi, Catania striker Maxi Lopez and Lopez’s ex-wife Wanda Nara.
Having spent time together in September, it now seems that Icardi has made behind-the-scenes moves for Maxi Lopez’s ex-wife after it became apparent that their marriage was falling apart.
Icardi went on to Twitter on Thursday to publicly state:
I love you [Wanda Nara], it will never be easy to say what I feel, because I discovered that those two words (“I love you” = “te amo” in Spanish) carry with them one feeling without limits!
Icardi’s tweet came at the same time as a new interview with Wanda Nara was released by Revista People, in which the model revealed:
It’s been three months since my husband had sex. Maxi has neglected me. Although I’ve been living in luxury, I am also living with hidden pain. I think the time has passed for me to save my family. I will not fight for the money, because he knows me.
A couple of photos showing Icardi, Lopez and Ms. Mara hanging out together over the summer can be seen below.

Ronaldo edges closer to Brazil

The Real Madrid forward got the decisive goal when he stooped low to head in Miguel Veloso's superb cross.
Up until then they were frustrated by a disciplined Sweden side, who went close through Johan Elmander, Sebastian Larsson and Kim Kallstrom.

Ronaldo heading for World Cup?

Cristiano Ronaldo heads in against Sweden
No player has scored more headed goals (four) than Ronaldo in European World Cup 2014 qualification
The second leg will take place at Solna's Friends Arena on Tuesday.
That promises to be another fascinating contest between two sides, with the impetus now on Sweden to attack, having set their stall out to defend for long periods during the first leg.
They did, however, create the better chances in the opening 45 minutes despite Portugal enjoying 67% of the possession.
With Paris St-Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic given special attention by Portugal's defence, his attack-minded team-mates found themselves with more space than they should have been afforded.
Norwich's on-loan forward Elmander was first to cause nerves in the home support when he stretched to send Mikael Lustig's right-wing cross inches past the post.
Erik Hamren's men then created two great chances in the space of two minutes. Sunderland's Larsson surged forward from midfield to strike a low shot that Rui Patricio dived to his left to divert, before Kallstrom, winning his 107th cap, smashed an 18-yard free-kick that brushed Portugal's upright.

Alexis Sanchez too hot for England

England suffered defeat in their first preparatory game for the 2014 World Cup, with Alexis Sanchez earning Chile a 2-0 win at Wembley.
A Three Lions line-up which included debutants Fraser Forster, Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez made a sluggish start and fell behind inside seven minutes on Friday night.
As the hosts failed to clear their lines, Eugenio Mena sent over a teasing delivery from the left and in-form Sanchez got across Leighton Baines to divert a stooping header into the bottom corner.
The Barcelona forward ended any hope England had of getting back into the game in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage-time as he was freed in space and delicately dinked the ball over the onrushing Forster.

Messi or Ronaldo

Ibrahimovich needs to be at the word cup not Ronaldo

By Robin Bairner

Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are both outstanding footballers, of that there can be no argument; however, the languid Swede deserves this opportunity to showcase his wares on the world stage.

At 32, this will more than likely be Ibra's final opportunity to play a starring role in a World Cup, and there can be little doubt the tournament would benefit enormously for having not only his skills, which are perhaps at their very peak presently, but also his personality on show.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker's form this season has been remarkable. In terms of his goalscoring talents, he has mustered close to a goal a game, including six in three Champions League outings, and his increasingly mature demeanour on the field means that he is performing with added confidence on the big stage.

Moreover, his versatility in front of goal is unparalleled. From his fierce 100km long-range drive against Anderlecht to his impossible scorpion kick versus Bastia - and let's not forget his Puskas Award-nominated overhead kick for Sweden against England last year - Ibrahimovic has a full gambit when it comes to putting the ball in the net. For this reason, he is perhaps the world's most mercurial and entertaining player.

However, Ibra's unpredictability is not restricted to events on the field. The outspoken Swede carries with him an ego matched only by his footballing talent, marking him out as one of football's few remaining media personalities.

He is a true leader of a workmanlike Sweden team that has the potential to repeat one of the great World Cup runs, when, in 1994, they pushed Brazil all the way in a tight semi-final before eventually finishing third courtesy of a playoff success over Bulgaria. Ibrahimovic is the Roy of the Rovers-type character who could make such a fairy tale run become reality and give the competition a romanticism it might otherwise lack.

Brazil next summer would be a brighter place with Ibrahimovic's utterly unique talents and controversial comments. It may well be the last chance we get to see one of the game’s great entertainers on such a grandiose stage.

Real Madrid set to rebrand stadium

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez announced this week that the club are in talks over a naming rights deal for their Santiago Bernabeu stadium, and along with the name change Los Blancos are planning to remodel their ground also.
Perez spoke about the remodelling plans on Spanish TV, saying:
We want to award the project later this month. There are four candidates for the improvements, and if they hurry up then we’ll see if by the summer we can start work on what will be something very emblematic for the 21st century Bernabeu.
Four designs have been submitted for the Santiago Bernabeu remodelling tender, and now images of those proposals have been made public.
Below are pictures of the four options for Real Madrid’s new home ground.
